The writer was the daughter of the innkeeper of the Resseguie Hotel (formerly the Keeler Tavern) a small home-and-hostel located on Main Street in Ridgefield. The inn was a coach stop on the main post road from Philadelphia to New York, to Hartford and Boston; and its guests often included prominent personalities of the day. While her journals are a very personal account of family and friendships, of church and local happenings, they also reflect the larger world outside.
